Much of the early trade buzz in the majors right now centers on the Brewers‘ interest in Cleveland left-hander C.C. Sabathia, who is on the market.
General manager Doug Melvin confirmed that special assistant Dick Groch was in Chicago on Wednesday to monitor Sabathia’s outing against the White Sox.
“We’ve seen him pitch a couple of times,” said Melvin, who declined to elaborate on any interest he has in the reigning American League Cy Young Award winner. “We look at a lot of guys.”
The Indians reportedly had scouts looking at Class A Brevard County third baseman Taylor Green, the Brewers‘ minor league Player of the Year in 2007. Cleveland is believed to be taking a close look at the Brewers‘ prospect-laden Class AA Huntsville club, too.
